Engines started in the ninth edition of Desafío Ruta 40 Norte. In the sunny Friday afternoon, the Prologue (5.4km long) was carried out in the neighboring Autódromo El Villicum.

Adrien Vam Beveren (Yamalube Yamaha Official Rally Rally Team) was the fastest among bikes with a time of 3m35s. The second place was for Red Bull / KTM Factory Racing rider, Sam Sunderland, 3s behind. Monster Energy Honda Team bikes finished behind them: Paulo Goncalves and Argentinean Kevin Benavides, 4s behind the Frenchman.  Meanwhile, Matthias Walkner did not have a good start. The Austrian KTM rider got a 40-minute penalty for missing two WPs.

Among 4×2 quads, the Argentinean riders filled the top places. Nicolás Cavigliasso was the fastest with 3m57s. Followed by Jeremías Gonzalez Ferioli (1s behind); and Gustavo Gallego and Nicolás Gagliardi (both 6s behind). While in 4×4 quads, Lucas Innocente got the first place clocking 4m 17s. The following positions went for: Daniel Mazzuco (1s later) and Pablo Novarra (3s).

Meanwhile, Orlando Terranova won among cars. X-raid MINI John Cooper Works Rally Team’s Argentinian driver completed the stage in 3m42s. Followed by: Sebastian Halpern (South Racing) 7s behind and José García (Chevrolet S10) 19s later.

The results obtained in the Prologue – the times will also be added in the overall classification – defined the starting order for Stage 1 San Juan-Villa Unión. Thus, Michael Metge will be in charge of opening the timed section at 8:30 am.

The 321.9km in the morning will combine a first section with fast roads and then cross a dry river never before explored. In addition, the competitors will have to cross a small sector of dunes to finish the stage with a very broken section.
